Curating a list of the top 5 beaches in Puglia proves to be a delightful challenge, especially amidst the abundance of picturesque and serene spots dotting our coastline. Embracing the philosophy that our surroundings shape our essence, we have meticulously curated a collection of 5 beaches that best capture our imagination.
Punta della Suina
Relaxation, calm waters, sand, and rock: Punta della Suina brings to mind The Beach, where Di Caprio explored the island's greens and blues in the movie. It's a place of contemplation, where you can immerse yourself in the infinite turquoise or the endless pine forest. Here, nature is presented as it truly is—raw and inviting. For us, it is definitely one of the best beaches in Puglia. Punta della Suina caters to both adventurers seeking a spot to lay their towels and read a book, and those who prefer leisurely walks along the waterline or lounging at a peaceful lido with all the necessary amenities. Our favourite spot here is G Beach, where we can unwind with a good drink and food, always ensured by Eva's attentive service. Lido Punta della Suina offers a spectacular view and great music during sunsets. And it's just 15 minutes away from the Palazzo, making it even more special.
Santa Caterina
Santa Caterina reminds me of a short Italian movie scene.
It's a place where time seems to have slowed a bit.
In between a gelato, a swim at the beach and a meal in one of the restaurants facing the beach, there is something for every taste.
Santa Catarina used to be a small fishing village, and this past is still printed in its small beautiful houses and port.
The village is less frequented than its bustling neighbour Gallipoli, making it an ideal place if you are seeking tranquillity without sacrificing the allure of the sea and the warmth of the Italian sun.
Sunsets here are magic.
When you visit, take a moment to walk by the shoreline and see the view.
Porto Selvaggio - one fo the best beaches in Puglia
Coming to Porto Selvaggio for the first time was so revealing. Hidden in between towers and pine forests, Porto Selvaggio is a natural reserve where history and nature converge. This protected area spans 400 hectares of pine, olive, and eucalyptus trees, interwoven with Mediterranean scrubland. Its rugged coastline along the Ionian Sea offers a sanctuary for wildlife, including various bird species and terrestrial fauna.
Porto Selvaggio’s landscape is dotted with historical watchtowers, remnants of a bygone era.
Visitors can traverse the forested path to the sea, where the clear waters invite diving enthusiasts. The park’s terrain is ideal for hiking, while its waters are perfect for swimming and kayaking.
Definitely a place to spend a day relaxing by the rocky beaches and hiking as well.
Porto Miggiano
Porto Miggiano is a stunning location in the region of Salento, near Santa Cesarea Terme. It’s known for its beautiful sea and unspoiled nature.
The beach is beautiful and full of locals - is located on a unique U-shaped rock formation surrounded by white cliffs. This beach is also known as the beach with the 100 stairs, due to the number of steps required to reach it. The challenging access rewards visitors with a breathtaking view and a rich seabed ideal for snorkelling and other water activities.
An important historical landmark near the beach is the Torre Miggiano, an ancient defensive tower dating back to the 1500s. The tower, which has been recently restored, stands on a rock that plunges directly into the sea. It served as a lookout point against Saracen invasions and is a testament to the historical significance of Porto Miggiano.
If you walk towards the port, you will be able to see rock formations that, during summer, are served by natural pools.
Cala dell’Acquaviva
It is not a secret. This is one of the most beautiful spots in the entire Salento, and by this time, you will probably know someone who has been to Cala dell'Acquaviva.
It is a serene cove of sand and rocks. It is very secluded and surround by beautiful nature that make this a truly beautiful and authentic spot, perfect for those seeking a peaceful beach and an authentic seaside experience.
The ideal place for snorkelling and admiring the sea. Keep in mind, though, that its small size can lead to crowds during peak tourist season.
La Cala dell'Acquaviva is one of the most beautiful coves in Salento, and we hope it remains as authentic and wild as it is today.
